Provides Logistics operational leadership, strategic advice and guidance to a team of approximately 40 employees. Lead the planning, directing and coordinating of daily operations within the Logistics and Furnishings departments to ensure optimum output and quality of work. Develop and implement workplace policies, standards, procedures, practices, work aids/guidelines and communication programs to ensure the department meets required goals and objectives. Effectively utilize resources to ensure that day-to-day activities and responsibilities are successfully completed in a timely manner. If necessary or as assigned, coordinate the assistance of other CAO, contractor and/or House support services to ensure that operational requirements are met. Develop and maintain tracking, measurement, and quality control processes for department to ensure daily operations are successfully met. Directly support/participate in special limited term projects and initiatives as required. Conduct after action reviews and provide feedback to applicable senior management.
Monitor and track daily work flow within area of responsibility. Maintain and seek to enhance customer service standards and perform customer surveys as required. Ensure that department responsibilities are properly completed in a timely manner. Develop and maintain annual budget for department to ensure all required needs are identified and met. Assess long term requirements of department and develop plans that address gaps to include relevant equipment and software needs. Identify, manage and implement improvement projects and initiatives from inception through completion. Participate in the strategic planning process to include conducting ongoing employee education/awareness initiatives. Prepare various daily/weekly/monthly and ad hoc reports as required.
Lead the workforce planning and development requirements (coaching, mentoring, performance management and career development) for assigned employees. Provide recommendations to the CLO concerning pending personnel actions, such as: posting position vacancy announcements, new appointments, merit increases, promotions, leave-without-pay, resignations, retirements, disciplinary actions, and terminations. Conduct interviews and assess job applicants, and subsequent hiring recommendations for department. Inform the CLO of unusual problems and unanticipated constraints of resource requirements.
Minimum 10 years of relevant experience, including at least 5 years of managing or leading operations. Bachelors degree preferred.
Bachelor’s Degree preferred with a minimum of 10 years of extensive experience in a logistics operations environment in the government and/or private sector required. A minimum of 5 years progressive supervisory/managerial experience preferred.
Must have broad knowledge of and experience with furniture operational practices and concepts in a customer service driven environment. Ability to interpret and translate logistics operations and information into useful communications or training.
Must have led/managed cross functional or inter-disciplinary employee work teams, and demonstrated ability to delegate, direct and coordinate workload within an organization. Must possess exceptional organizational, analytical and problem-solving skills. Effective communication skills, both verbal and written essential. Collaborative working style with excellent interpersonal, consultative and presentation skills required. Results and goal-oriented individual that is self-motivated and able to work independently as well as in coordination with various teams within time constraints. Proven success serving as a source of expert information and managing deadline pressures and multiple challenging assignments simultaneously in a fast-paced work environment. Must possess willingness to take on new opportunities and openness to change. Must be able to establish and maintain processes for administrative, quality control, and measurement criteria.
Knowledge of and ability to understand general management theories, concepts, principals, and applicable employment laws. Ability to analyze problems, evaluate viewpoints and proposals, and recommend appropriate solutions/changes. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing as well as the ability to establish effective working relationships with senior staff and other high-ranking officials. Ability to develop, implement, and maintain internal workplace policies, standards, procedures, and practices. Must be able to manage highly confidential and sensitive information appropriately; and be able to secure and maintain Federal Government security clearances as deemed appropriate by senior management
Extensive experience working with various automated equipment found in the logistics trade preferred. Experience working with automated work ticket tracking and financial management systems preferred. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
