LAS is responsible for acquiring land and other real property on behalf of the US through condemnation proceedings for purposes ranging from establishing national parks to creating military training facilities, preserving environmental resources and expanding our border security infrastructure. The Land Acquisition Section offers a tremendous opportunity for those interested in complex civil litigation involving discovery, motion practice, expert witness preparation, settlement negotiations and trial.
Incumbent serves as a Supervisory Paralegal Specialist with attorneys in the Land Acquisition Section. Duties include but are not limited to:
To qualify for GS-12: You must have one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-11 Federal grade level or above providing a variety of analytical paralegal and legal support work which demonstrates a practical knowledge of law, the litigation process and applicable rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
Examples of specialized experience may include the following: analyzing and evaluating legal decisions and case files to identify relevant issues and potential evidence, conducting legal research concerning precedents and past court decisions, composing legal briefs, summaries or analyses and decisions, and pre-trial documents; interviewing witnesses and other individuals who can provide insight into cases under review; and preparing evidence and documents to support recommendations.
Experience in complex litigation, including discovery, motion practice and trial, is highly desirable. Experience supervising paralegals or employees is also desirable, but not required.
