    Responsibilities

    Surgical Service, within the New Mexico VA Health Care System, is recruiting for Cardiac and Thoracic (CT) Section. Surgical Service is seeking a full-time board certified (preferred) Cardiac and Thoracic (CT) Surgeon, fellowship trained and excited to join the team. The successful CT surgeon will become a member of a team providing compassionate healthcare to Veterans. In addition, the CT surgeon will be committed to the continued development of a strong clinical service, the education of medical students and general surgery residents, and the development of productive clinical program.
    All staff members with privileges on the Surgical Service shall be qualified to perform evaluation and management services including: complete history and physical examinations, interim evaluations, ordering of diagnostic studies and consultations relevant to the patient's medical problem, admission to and discharge from acute care and critical care units, and non-operative and operative patient management as specified in their subspecialty privileges. The staff shall be privileged to supervise, instruct and assist specialty residents, students, and ancillary health personnel in their evaluation and management of patients, the performance of non-operating room procedures, and the performance of minimally invasive and operative procedures. Prefer experience esophageal, mitral valve repair and TAVR experience.
    The facility is a fully accredited, tertiary care facility and referral site for other VA's in the greater metropolitan area, with a major teaching program affiliated with the University Of New Mexico School Of Medicine. A faculty appointment commensurate with training and experience will also be considered. Opportunities for basic research are available along with clinical work in newly remodeled angiographic and operating room suites. Computerized charting is utilized in all aspects of the specialty.



    Work Schedule: Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
