    This position is located in the Division of Horticulture, under the Office of Administrator. The Division of Horticulture is responsible for the maintenance of 10 acres of exterior landscape around the East and West building of the National Gallery of Art including a 6 acre Sculpture Garden. In addition the Division of Horticulture is responsible for 4 interior gardens, 9 greenhouses, 4 cold frames, and three specialty gardens.

    The incumbent will:

    • Supervise horticulturist and gardens.
    • Provides daily instructions as well as well long range plans for the maintenance of the grounds.
    • Prepares and implements maintenance and planting schedules for all areas of the Sculpture Garden and grounds of the Gallery.
    • Prepares and disperses horticultural chemicals as required to insure proper growing conditions for plants in gardens.
    • Identifies areas in need of renovation and designs new plans for them.
    • Incumbent establishes and assures that safe working practices are utilized.
    • Assumes responsibility for cleaning hard surface walks and drives located in the Sculpture Garden including all necessary snow and trash removal from the areas.
    • Conducts educational horticulture tours of the Sculpture Garden, greenhouses, or other areas of horticultural interest.
