The incumbent of this position will serve as a senior-level political/military analyst performing research and analysis on counterterrorism (CT) and counterinsurgency related activities related to U.S. and Coalition plans, strategies, and operations for designated overseas contingency operations (OCOs).
In support of Lead IG, Incumbent develops CT trends, assessments, and performs gap analysis; performs research and analysis on the political and military environment.

Assesses the leadership, motivations, capabilities, plans, and intentions of foreign terrorist groups and their state/non-state sponsors. Maintains awareness of relevant activities, national/international schedules of events in support of informing leadership and maintaining situational awareness of the uptempo of activities.
Provides analytical support to insurgency operations, indications and warning, threat assessment, and collection management to inform Lead IG products.
Based on the research/analysis conducted, presents, drafts and reviews written, narrative style documents in support of the publication of classified supplements on topics relevant to OCO operations, programs, services and activities.Documents are produced in support of the quarterly reporting to Congress. As a result, incumbent serves as a subject matter expert upon review of written products, the supervisor is consistently satisfied with the quality, grammar/logic of conclusions/recommendations. Products rarely require editing for grammar, flow or clarity. Conclusions and recommendations are consistently clearly articulated and supported within the products and require little to no input from supervisor or Deputy IG for OCO.
Reviews and interprets national security directives and counter-terrorism policy documents from the Executive Branch, Department of Defense (DoD), Department of State (DOS), and Department of Justice as they relate to OIR and OFS. Monitors and informs senior management of any changes in strategy, operations, funding, programming that may impact OFS and/or OIR, to inform Lead IG products.
Research and analysis conducted consistently identifies and integrates relevant information or data that fully supports product development and publication; the analysis leads to sound and logical conclusions and courses of action and strategies that results in identifying key opportunities and/or challenges; and results sound and timely decisions or recommendations.
Maintains comprehensive knowledge of DOS, military, civilian, and international organizations present in the CENTCOM Area of Responsibility, to include their leaders, philosophies, and goals.
Analyzes a variety of information to gain a comprehensive understanding of complex analytic issues and produces a range of unclassified and classified written products. Minimal direction and use of independent judgment and decision. Operates and conducts analysis/research, hosts meetings and other work in their duties.
