    This position is located in the Bureau of Trade Analysis and serves as the Director of Economic Studies. The incumbent performs highly specialized economic and other evaluative analysis in researching and analyzing market conditions, including the impact agreements may have on competition, and providing authoritative technical advice regarding Shipping industry-related problem resolution or the need for research and investigation.

    As an Industry Economist you will:

    • Direct complex economic analysis of agency regulations, programs, and regulated entities.
    • Utilize in-depth knowledge of the transportation industry and appropriate economic methods to evaluate the impact and effect of agency regulations and develops courses of action, new or unique approaches to key issues.
    • Prepare position papers recommending viable analytical strategies for evaluating issues in the ocean shipping industry.
    • Monitor the ongoing activities of vessel-operating common carriers (VOCCs) and marine terminal operators (MTOs) in order to detect and/or guard against substantial increases in transportation costs, decreases in transportation services, and/or to identify or address other prohibited activities.
