This position is located in the Smithsonian Institution's Scholarly Press (SISP)-the Smithsonian's only pan-institutional publishing program dedicated to publishing research of Smithsonian scholars. - Maintains and updates systems essential to the publishing program such as online submission management system, submission and publication reports and databases, and permanent files/records, licensing and permissions documentation inventory and fulfillment records.
- Coordinates program communications.
- Coordinates all financial transactions, including procurement through purchase orders and purchase/shipping cards, and serves as liaison with the Office of Finance & Administration.
- Provides editorial assistance at program and project levels for scholarly publications.

Experience: You qualify for this position if you possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position Specialized experience is defined as administrative/clerical support of office operations, such as tracking and maintaining reports and records, correspondence and communications/social media, scheduling, tracking financial transactions, purchasing goods and services, and providing editorial assistance in preparing documents for publication.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.

How You Will Be Evaluated
You will be evaluated for this job based on how well you meet the qualifications above.
Your application will be evaluated first for the basic qualifications described above. The applications that meet the basic qualifications will be evaluated further against the following criteria:
- Ability to administer manuscript submissions, inside and outside of online systems; to track manuscripts from submission to transmittal to production; to maintain, update, and ensure accuracy and completeness of all program records/archives, reports, databases, etc.; and to review incoming permissions requests.
- Skill in preparation of thorough, effective, error-free correspondence and reporting, and demonstrated oral, written, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to manage procurement of goods and services and to maintain all permanent financial records.
- Ability to edit for grammar, punctuation, style, and English usage at manuscript and proof stages.
