    The Washington DC VA Medical Center is seeking a highly skilled Physician Assistant to serve as a mid-level provider for the Gastroenterology/Hepatology section of Medical Service; functioning both in a clinical and administrative role. The Physician Assistant will have the authority and responsibility to assume clinical, educational, research and administrative duties related to the patients and staff of GI / Hepatology.

    Major duties consist of, but are not limited to:

    • Primary focus of practice is the clinical management of health care to patients
      assigned to the GI/Hepatology service;
    • Facilitates care of GI/Hepatology patients as well as their entry and exit from various
      health care systems by establishing and maintaining liaison with a variety of medical specialists and associated staff;
    • Assist with all clinical aspects of care to the patients assigned to the Service. This includes evaluations, consultations and the writing of orders;
    • Orders tests and procedures necessary to evaluate and care for these patients;
    • Initiates and accepts referrals to clinics and/or community agencies;
    • Collaborates with other health-care resources to insure timely and appropriate care of patients;
    • Performs procedures consistent with training as a P.A.;
    • Performs minor procedures within realm of expertise and under the direction of the Chief of GI/Hepatology and in accordance with the individuals Scope of Practice;
    • Assists other Physician Assistants assigned to the Service, as needed;
    • Coordinate referrals, scheduling and evaluation of veterans at the VAMC in addition to outside VA's and private sector referrals of veterans to the GI/Hepatology Service;
    • Attends committee meetings and process action teams to represent the
    • Service;
    • Facilitates response/actions to patient inquires for care and treatment provided by the Service;
    • Assists the other Physician Assistants assigned to service with Administrative and clinical concerns, as needed;
    • Function as the liaison between the Chief of Service and other Sub-specialty services on clinical issues, as needed.
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 8:00AM- 4:30PM
