This position is located in Cornish NH within the Division of Maintenance at Saint-Gaudens National Historic Site and Marsh Billings Rockefeller National Historic Park. The incumbent will independently perform various painting duties on historic and non-historic buildings and other park infrastructure. Duties include preparing surfaces, obtaining supplies & equipment, setting up ladders & scaffolds, covering items, mixing, and applying a variety of coating materials, such as primers, paints, and stains.
The employee prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places. This requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift, carry and set up materials and equipment that weighs up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weighs 40 pounds and over. Work is performed in both indoor and outdoor environments with exposure to all types of weather, temperatures, and insects.
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
Physical Demands/Working Conditions: Prepares and coats surfaces from ladders, scaffolds, and platforms, and in situations where the surfaces to be coated are in cramped and hard to reach places. Work may be at extreme heights. Requires the ability to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb, be strapped into swing stages and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Ability to lift, carry and set up materials and equipment that weighs up to 10 pounds. Occasionally, may be required to handle materials and equipment that weighs 40 pounds and over. The work is done inside and outside, with dirt, spray, and fumes usually present. Required to prepare, treat and coat surfaces outside in all types of weather. Protective equipment and clothing such as safety shoes, safety glasses or sun glasses, gloves, rain gear, hard hats, coveralls, respirators and other protective gear are required, which are sometimes heavy and uncomfortable. Frequent exposure to the possibility of cuts and bruises; may occasionally be exposed to the possibility of broken bones.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework only during an emergency or natural disaster.
