    Summary

    This position is located in the Department of Health & Human Services (HHS), Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), Office of Communications (OC), Media Relations Group (MRG).

    As a Public Affairs Specialist, GS-1035-13, you will serve as a press officer and will be responsible for the coordination of media relations activities for assigned "beat" areas. You will support the agency's priorities, CMS programs, and initiatives.

    Responsibilities

    • Maintain awareness of how CMS programs and policies are portrayed by various audience segments and/or media organizations.
    • Provide media relations advice to agency officials and CMS components about newsworthy, sensitive, and controversial issues.
    • Coordinate logistics of finalizing press materials within CMS and HHS following standard operating procedures.
    • Initiate, create, write, and edit materials, including news releases, press statements, fact sheets, and frequently asked questions about CMS programs, initiatives, policy, technical and provider interests and issues.
    • Work collaboratively with media representatives and subject matter experts.
