This position is on the staff of the Director (D) in the Department of Exhibitions (DEX) and is responsible for coordinating and managing special exhibitions. DEX establishes exhibition schedules, gathers budgets, generates contracts for participants and guest curators, and manages correspondence with lenders of works of art. The incumbent is proficient in most of these functions and carries them out in advancement of DEX's core mission.

The incumbent:
Manages domestic and international loan exhibitions from the conceptual stage and schedules and coordinates participating venues and tours for same. Manages loan negotiations, contract negotiations, creates budgets, monitors expenses, and advises on insurance requirements for assigned exhibitions. Establishes and manages institution-wide production schedules for each assigned exhibition. Represents the department in meetings regarding administration of assigned exhibitions. Reviews exhibition procedures and recommends methods for improving efficiency.
Assesses lender requirements and fees for loans, and negotiates terms. Reviews loan agreement forms and loan contracts. Communicates terms and special requirements of loans to appropriate staff, and monitors compliance with such terms and conditions. Drafts, reviews, and negotiates participants agreements with venues and guest curator and consultant agreements for assigned exhibitions, and monitors compliance with terms. Develops exhibition budgets.
Supervises one or more staff of equal or lower grade, as well as guest curators and consultants for assigned exhibitions. Plans, schedules, and assigns work. Plans and establishes work schedules, deadlines and standards for acceptable work. Tracks progress and performance quality and decides acceptability of services and outputs.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, the incumbent may walk to other offices in the East and west Buildings.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have a minimum of one year of specialized experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility comparable to the next lower grade or comparable pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private sector.
[GS-12] Specialized experience is at least one year of experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service, managing art museum exhibitions.
[GS-13] Specialized experience is at least one year of experience, equivalent in responsibility to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service, managing art museum exhibitions.
Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Requires availability to travel CONUS and OCONUS.
