    This position is part of the Department of Defense Civilian Acquisition Workforce Personnel Demonstration Project. The NH-3 broadband level encompasses positions equivalent to GS-12 and GS-13.

    You will serve as a Naval Architect in the Naval Systems Engineering Directorate (NAVSEA 05) Submarine/Submersible Design & Systems Engineering Group, within the HQ of NAVAL SEA SYSTEMS COMMAND, located in Washington, D.C.

    • You will act as a technical expert directing naval architecture projects on major submarine programs of National importance.
    • You will prepare or review specifications for the construction, conversion, maintenance and repair of ships.
    • You will develop design of ships (excluding small boats), e.g., hull form, structural strength, stability, weight, speed, ship motion, trim, seaworthiness, and power and endurance.
    • You will determine the size, shape, and location of shipboard compartments, battle stations, and related accesses or passageways between decks.
    • You will approve the scope of engineering effort required to support design approval for ship and system designs.
    • You will advise project team engineers, and naval architecture activities with reference to planning, designing, assessing and reporting of risk engineering and operations as required in preparation of system and ship designs.
    • You will support a senior technical expert in the management of a Project Team or development effort for major Navy program assignments which require the skilled application of scientific and systems engineering theories, concepts and principles.
    • You will develop and set engineering policy for compliance by the Navy project engineers as well as contractors developing and constructing ships and systems to meet our Nation?s vital security needs.
    • You will manages the work of other engineers and multiple work group leaders within a Group/Division or program office.
