    The Medical Technician (Phlebotomist) performs phlebotomy, accessioning, processing, and clerical duties for the Pathology and Laboratory Medicine Service at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Spokane, WA. The position performs a variety of diagnostic tests and procedures using automated instruments and manual methods.

    This is an Open Continuous Announcement. Applicants will be referred to the hiring manager every two weeks until positions are filled.

    This announcement is for either a full-time or part-time position. Part-Time pay is prorated based upon full-time employment.

    The incumbent draws blood from patients for requested laboratory tests, adhering to safety, infection control, and universal precautions at all times. Instructs patients in procedures followed prior, during, and after tests. Answers incoming telephone calls for laboratory blood draw services. Functions as a resource person and troubleshooter for medical staff and physicians. Prepares referral and/or hazardous material specimens for shipment. Receives electronic, verbal and written orders for testing in the laboratory and enters requests into computers. Receives samples for testing into the laboratory, verifying proper patient preparation sample collection, and sample transport requirements. Processes specimens according to CAP, Joint Commission, and OSHA guidelines to assure specimen integrity.
