The Supervisory Medical Support Assistant (MSA) position serves as a supervisor, technical expert, and advisor to ensure that the work assignments are carried out by the members of the team to perform a variety of support functions in connection with the care and treatment given to patients. The Supervisory MSA works closely with all staff within the assigned service area performing the administrative details that are essential to the orderly and efficient accomplishment of the unit goals.

Supervisory MSAs at this level plan and direct programs at medical centers and/or satellite outpatient clinics and have full supervisory responsibility for supervising at least one subordinate team leader or supervisor. Assignments at this level include, but are not limited to: assigning and evaluating the work of subordinate staff; resolving complex problems to ensure patient services are met; evaluating new products, equipment, and systems in order to make recommendations for improved operations; assisting in developing and coordinating internal review systems;Supervising scheduling appointments and clinic management per performance standards; performing review of active/pending consults, Electronic Wait List, Recall list, Providers direct orders, and the Veteran Choice List; identifying educational or training needs; making final decisions on selections; evaluating performance, and taking disciplinary action when necessary. The employee has full administrative and professional responsibility for planning and directing the MSA's activities. Responsible for extracting and analyzing data in order to provide reports in support of performance measures to senior management. For all assignments above the full performance level, the higher level duties must consist of significant scope, administrative independence, complexity (difficulty) and range of variety as described in this standard at the specified grade level and be performed by the incumbent at least 25% of the time.

Work Schedule: Monday through Friday; 8:00 to 4:30 or as agreed upon with the possibility of extended hours and weekends.
NOTE: Candidates must be willing to work weekends, irregular work hours and extended hours. The candidate must be willing to be assigned to other related services and/or locations, if necessary.
