The Technical Career Field (TCF) is a national workforce development program within VHA that was designed to replenish technical staff in critically identified positions. The TCF career fields represent those technical fields where VA-specific knowledge and experience is desirable for success in the field. Individuals selected follow a formal training plan for two years during which they are trained, coached, and supervised by a preceptor. Preceptors are selected annually, through an extensive application process, for their technical expertise, their commitment to training and the suitability of their facility as a training location. *Selectees will be required to sign Mobility, Training, and Continued Service Agreements.
This is a developmental position leading to a GS-09, performing assignments intended to broaden skills and provide practical experience leading to progressively more complex assignments performed under progressively less supervision. You will ultimately acquire the background necessary to perform at the full performance level of GS-11. Promotion is at the discretion of the supervisor and is contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of higher level work, and availability of funds.
The General Engineer, TCF Trainee position is located in the Facilities Management Division at the Clement J. Zablocki Medical Center. The TCF Trainee program is a comprehensive two-year program designed to train candidates for positions within the Veterans Health Administration (VHA). This program provides the foundation for developing trainees from entry level to full performance level. It includes planned training, rotational assignments, and on-the-job work experience.
- Serves as a main resource of engineering theories and applications for other staff.
- Responsible for the inspection of projects during construction, preparing necessary reports, checking blueprints and specifications.
- Provides professional engineering services related to the layout, design, development, and completion of construction projects.
- Reviews and approves/disapproves material and equipment submittals.
- Prepares contract drawings, sketches, and as-built drawings in AutoCAD.
Work Schedule:Full-Time, Monday-Friday, 7:00am-3:30 pm
