    This position is located in the Defense Legal Services Agency (DLSA), Office of Military Commissions, Military Commissions Defense Organization. The General Counsel, who is the Director of the Defense Legal Services Agency, is appointed by the President and with the advice and consent of the Senate, is the chief legal officer of the Department of Defense (DoD) and is responsible for all legal services performed within and involving the Department of Defense (10 U.S.C. 14).

    Your typical work assignments may include the following:

    • Serving on a Military Commissions Defense organization team defending detainees in trial cases pursuant the Military Commissions Act of 2009.
    • Providing direct leadership, oversight, and management to a staff of paralegals and support staff.
    • Advising defense counsel on all paralegal administrative support requirements pertaining to all phases of trial support.
    • Managing all aspects of discovery, implementing solutions to improve discover management, and dispatching disclosure in capital defense cases.
    • Conducting legal research and prepares written summaries and drafts motions.
    • Complying with security protocols for handling and delivering of sensitive and classified materials.
    • Assists the defense team with engaging witnesses, conducting interviews and identifying issues.
    • Utilizes various automation tools and resources for discovery management and legal research, preparing legal documents, and creating and maintaining files.
