    The Section plays a highly visible role in working with the lay and professional public in generating referrals of research participants and responding to research inquiries including those generated by consumers, family members, advocacy organizations, and medical professionals. Clinical research requires the collaborative participation of great numbers of carefully screened and diagnosed participants as well as healthy comparison participants.

    As a GS-0301-12 Patient Recruitment Specialist your duties may include but are not limited to the following:

    • Developing programs, plans and initiatives designed to educate individuals about the NIH, Clinical Center, and participation in clinical research;
    • Developing and implementing educational programs and materials to be delivered to a diverse audience of physicians, clinical personnel, healthcare administrators, and members of the lay public including women and minorities;
    • Developing and producing effective recruiting materials that capture the attention of both professional and nonprofessional populations and creating informational materials and mailings that describe programmatic activities and the need for research participants;
    • Using social media and digital technologies strategically in targeting patient recruitment messages;
    • Assisting with the design, evaluation, revisions and implementation of formal and informal educational events;
    • Reviewing protocols and making specific suggestions regarding the target audiences, wording of print materials, screening questions, and recruitment strategies;
    • Developing screening questions for protocols, ensuring that they are reviewed and approved by the appropriate staff;
    • Developing new referral resources through calls, referrals, and leads generated by advertising, articles, display materials, brochures, audiovisual presentations and community exposure events;
