    This position is located in the Office of Nursing Research and Translational Science (NRTS), Clinical Center Nursing Department (CCND), at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). This Nurse (Research Specialist),position serves as a research nurse coordinator for a Clinical Nurse Scientist in the Nursing Department.

    Responsibilities

    This Nurse (Research Specialist), will serve as the team lead and coordinate care, study management, human subject protection, and protocol compliance for the bio-behavioral research portfolio under a clinical scientist in the NIH Nursing Department.

    Duties will include:

    • Coordinating care for individuals who are participants in clinical studies in the NIH CC Nursing Department. Collaborates with IC staff and interdisciplinary patient care teams to identify potential participants for clinical studies.
    • Monitors research participants' responses to study and clinical treatment and reports events to a member of the research team.
    • Provides education to research participants and family caregivers regarding study participation, the participant's clinical condition and safety principles related to study enrollment and participation.
    • Records research data such as clinical measurements, participant responses, and study procedures in approved source documents.
    • Develops, coordinates, and manages research studies and evaluation activities that improve outcomes for patient participating in research studies at the NIH CC.
    • Directs and performs quality assurance and quality control activities as they related to study adherence, study monitoring, data collection, data abstraction, and data analysis and assures standard operating procedures are followed.
    • Ensures that informed consent is obtained prior to beginning any studies and that it is ongoing through the patient's participation in the research process.
    • Provides patient-focused nursing leadership within the interdisciplinary team and collaborates with team members to create and communicate a plan of care that balances clinical care needs with research needs and allows for a safe and effective collection of clinical research data.
