This Merit Promotion position is open to Current Federal Employees and Former Federal Employees with permanent status or reinstatement eligibility. The incumbent consults with curators and other museum staff to conceive, coordinate and conduct engaging, participatory, and diverse Signature Public Programming, and outreach and collaborative activities such as conferences, symposia, grant-sponsored lecture series, NMAAHC Curatorial Programs, and SI collaborations based on the museum vision, exhibitions, themes, and other relevant themes.
Incumbent designs creative programming to attract, educate, and enrich diverse audiences of all ages; plans and coordinates logistical details; and proposes programming content for the museum website.
Authors detailed, and polished program proposals, descriptions of existing programs as well as those in development; provides specifications for materials & supplies, rentals, audiovisual, horticulture, signage, documentation, insurance, and security requirements; and prepares online and paper promotional materials for printing and electronic distribution.
Develops budgets for programs; and makes arrangements for presenters, workshop leaders, and consultants to include: travel, honoraria and hospitality.
Develops evaluation criteria and designs formats for collecting statistical information to evaluate the quality and success of the visitor experience and the program.
Qualification requirements, including one year time-in-grade at the next lower grade level for promotion candidates, must be met within 30 days of the job announcement closing date.

SELECTIVE FACTOR: Experience developing public programming with an emphasis on African American History and Culture and/or African diaspora.
In addition to meeting the selective factor above, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-9 level in the Federal Service or comparable pay band system. For this position specialized experience is defined as: conceiving, developing, implementing and evaluating educational and public programs for diverse audiences for a museum or similar cultural entity.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Part-time and/or unpaid experience related to this position will be considered to determine the total number of years and months of experience. Be sure to note the number of paid or unpaid hours worked each week.
Or education:
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree related to the position may be substituted to meet the experience requirements.
