This is a Career Seasonal position. Career-seasonal positions include all the benefits of permanent employment, but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. Selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. GS-07 - This is an advanced trainee position with developmental assignments to prepare you for the higher-graded position. Assignments are similar to those assigned to nonprofessional employees primarily for training purposes, and, to relieve higher-grade professionals of routine work. Work at this is to help prepare you to exercise the responsibilities and perform the wide range of duties reflected at the full performance level.
GS-09 - Duties are similar to those identified below with less complexity and greater supervision.
GS-11 - Duties include:
- Coordinating and directing natural resource management and monitoring programs; coordinate complex projects across divisions and involving multi-disciplinary teams; develop, administer and track budgets; ensure natural resource projects are in compliance with Federal and State laws and regulations; prepares technician and scientific reports.
- Develop and implement natural resource monitoring protocol; lead natural resource data collection efforts; use database management programs to manage natural resource data; perform data entry, statistical analysis, data presentation, data visualization; use principles of operational leadership to conduct field work safely; evaluate programmatic needs and develop budgets to meet park goals.
- Gathers and manages vegetation data. Carries out baseline botanical inventory. Carries out monitoring of invasive plant species. Perform botanical surveys in a wide range of great Basis/sagebrush steppe/volcanic habitats. Organize schedule and execute plant treatment. Select and apply herbicides and/or appropriate mechanical treatment for invasive plants.
- Establish performance objectives and assess staff performance, ensure workload and performance targets are appropriate, reasonable, and implemented throughout the year; facilitate communication between employees, supervisors and managers.
- Protect park resources through consultation with subject matter experts, adherence to Federal and State environmental laws and regulations, managing of compliance software, and effective communication across divisions.
- Develop partnerships with diverse groups of stakeholders; communicate orally, in writing, and visually regarding critical and high profile management issues; communicate resource data for resource managers, partners, and the general public; work closely with other groups to identify research needs and solicit collaborative research efforts.

Documentary research and report writing work is sedentary, which entails the ability to concentrate and write for long periods of time.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in all types of weather. Assignments may be performed in potentially hazardous areas including steep slopes, rocky terrain, volcanoes, caves, firelines, arctic environments, swamps, deserts, and forests. Flying in fixed wing aircraft and helicopters is possible.
The National Park Service has determined that the duties of this position are suitable for telework and the selectee may be allowed to telework with supervisor approval.
