    This position is located in the Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs), in the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense (DASD) for Health Services Policy and Oversight (HSP&O). The Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense (Health Affairs) (OASD(HA)) mission is to provide for and maintain readiness, medical services, and support to members of the Armed Services during military operations wherever they occur in the world.

    Your typical work assignments may include the following:

    • As a medical officer the incumbent serves as the subject matter expert and medical consultant for policy issues related to health care quality management, risk management, GME and medical accession and retention incentives for the entire MHS.
    • Provides expert medical advice and information and recommends 'best practice" for quality management and risk management policies, programs, and initiatives in the health care delivery system for the DoD. Responsible for analyzing and advising the ASD (HA) and the DASD (HSP&O) on all policies, programs, and activities dealing with quality of medical care.
    • Applies expert and up-to-date knowledge in the field of medical science to represent DoD on a significant number of boards, panels, and committees.
    • Serving as a medical officer, analyzes, develops, and writes documents relative to DoD medical programs and operations including position papers, proposals, justifications, and memoranda. Develops OASD (HA) responses. Provides input and composes responses to congressional inquiries on health care delivery programs and medical care. Develops and recommends policy guidance and DoD issuances. Represents the ASD(HA) and the DASD(HSP&O) in the areas of quality, GME and medical accession and retention incentives. Provides technical assistance on a wide range of military quality, GME, and medical accession and retention incentives.
    • Maintains cognizance of activities of the military services, OSD, and DoD agencies affecting DoD policy and contract performance in the areas of quality and GME involving TRlCARE contractors.
    • Reviews and analyzes complex medical issues in the areas of quality, GME and medical accession and retention incentives related to benefits, cost containment, and the organization of service delivery for beneficiaries of the MHS as they are evidenced in current literature and by analysis of MHS aggregated data.
