    This position is located in the National Environmental Satellite, Data, and Information Service (NESDIS), Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), Cooperative Research Programs (CoRP) with one vacancy in College Park, Maryland.

    Responsibilities

    As a Supervisory Physical Scientist, you will perform the following duties:

    • Serve as Division Chief for the Cooperative Research Program Division (CoRP) within the Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR), National Environmental Satellite, Data and Information Service (NESDIS). Lead a team of Civil Servant staff co-located with University based Cooperative Institutes in conducting major applied research and applications programs. These programs support NOAA's mission to protect life, property and advance our economy through products and services based on operational satellite remote sensing for meteorology, oceanography and satellite based environmental and climate monitoring from NOAA and partner satellites.
    • Provide leadership for NOAA's Satellite and Information service in its utilization of academic partners. In this role, you will provide strategic advice and day to day management of Cooperative Institute and other academic partner efforts, solicit and evaluate research proposals from NOAA’s Cooperative Institutes (Cis), initiate and monitor research contracts, grants, and cooperative agreements, evaluate results, and communicate these efforts to a broad range of audiences.
    • Oversee the administrative and financial planning and activities of the division.
    • Perform supervisory functions for civil service staff, including planning and distributing work, hiring, evaluating work performance, discipline, resolving employee complaints, and ensuring staff are trained and developed
