    This position is located in the Office of Outreach and Project Development (OPD), Build America Bureau, Office of the Secretary. This position supports the OPD program by assisting skilled professionals in analyzing and developing transportation projects. Activities include outreach, development of specific projects and education of project sponsors to encourage the use of Departmental programs. The employee assists in marketing programs and developing a culture of customer service.

    As a Transportation Specialist and Regional Project Development Lead, you will:

    • Serve as the Project Development Lead within your assigned region to identify and develop transportation infrastructure projects, for which you will act as the single point of contact for project sponsors.  Coordinate technical assistance support to navigate projects from initial contact with the Bureau through the development process up to the credit phase of project development.  This work requires keen attention to detail, political acumen and the ability to operate in a fast-paced environment.
    • Analyze and determine the application of appropriate domestic infrastructure regulations, policies, procedures, legislation, proposals, techniques and technology in the transportation sector in order to generate recommendations on project-specific policy at key decision points in project development.    
    • Conduct and ensure collaboration and coordination with Operating Administrations in DOT and various entities within the Office of the Secretary of Transportation on programmatic topics including but not limited to:  project eligibility for financing, development of financing plans, public-private partnerships, transit oriented development, environmental and permitting.  Facilitate interdisciplinary collaboration between transportation agencies and industry partners.
    • Conduct proactive outreach activities and inform industry stakeholders and project sponsors to help them understand and encourage the use of Departmental programs.  Establish the Build America Bureau as a primary source of assistance for both public and private project sponsors.  Develop internal and external outreach materials, including presentations, Microsoft Office products, speeches and other items to develop the program outreach of the Build America Bureau. 

    The OST is looking for an experienced motivated and self-reliant candidate willing to learn and adapt to change in working with skilled professionals analyzing transportation.This position is located in the New DOT building, which sits directly across the street from the metro and blocks away from the new National’s Baseball stadium.
