Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses will not be paid. All travel, transportation, and relocation expenses associated with reporting for duty in this position will be the sole responsibility of the selected employee.
- Perform basic preventative maintenance inspections on equipment and vehicles (ie. fuel, oil, coolant, filters, tires, batteries, etc.).
- Adhere to safety guidelines for vehicle and machine operation.
- Operate diesel and gasoline powered vehicles up to 32,000 pounds gross vehicle weight (GVW).
- Provide recurring maintenance and repair work on roads, trails, and signs.
- Perform pavement crack sealing, asphalt and concrete patching and potholing, using hot patch, cold patch, and concrete mixtures.
- Perform roadway and trail milling and paving.
- Remove ice and snow from roads and other hard surfaces.
- Haul cargo such as hot mix asphalt, crushed stone, brush and debris, and passengers.
- Perform curb and gutter sweeping by hand or machine.
- Use Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD) standards, to ensure roadway activities are performed in a safe manner.
- Operate line striping paint machinery on hard surface roads and trails.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position to perform daily work or to attend meetings and training.

- You will be required to wear a uniform and comply with the National Park Service uniform standards. A uniform allowance will be provided.
- You may be required to work on-call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime and shift work.
- This position is designated Emergency Essential. Incumbent will be required to report for duty during any emergency, as designated by park management.
- If you are a new employee or supervisor in the Federal government, you will be required to complete a one-year probationary period.
- Government Charge Card: You may be required to complete training and obtain/maintain a government charge card with travel and/or purchase authority.
- Applicants must be at least (1)18 years old or (2) at least 16 years old and: (a) Have graduated from high school or been awarded a certificate equivalent to graduating from high school; or (b) Have completed a formal vocational training program; or (c) Have received a statement from school authorities agreeing with their preference for employment rather than continuing their education; or (d) Be currently enrolled in a secondary school and either work only during school vacation periods or work part-time during the school year under a formal student employment program.

Physical Effort: Physical effort is heavy to moderate and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds unassisted, following proper lifting procedure to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working. Will bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
Working Conditions: Operates motor vehicles and equipment in or near fast moving traffic, in extreme heat and inclement weather, and in darkness for snow removal and other emergencies. Works outside and is exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors, from extremes of cold, heat, and humidity. May be exposed to dust, dirt, wind, rain, sleet, and snow. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to insect and animal bites and stings, plant toxins.
Required to wear appropriate safety equipment as specified by the supervisor and the NPS maintenance uniform. Must have and maintain a valid state or District of Columbia driver's license, and a valid CDL Class B or above.
