    This position is located in the Bureau of Overseas Building Operations (OBO), Operations Directorate (OPS), Office of Cultural Heritage (CH). The Office manages the Department of State (DOS) properties and their assets designated as historically, culturally, or having significant architectural characteristics pertinent to the host country and U.S. diplomatic relations.

    • Plans and carries out Cultural Significance Studies, Historic Structure Reports, and Cultural Landscape Reports of U.S. properties around the world, currently encompassing over 100 diplomatic missions, to assess their cultural significance.
    • Reviews and comments on proposed or anticipated changes to Department culturally significant properties; proposes mitigation measures as appropriate.
    • Manages the Secretary of State's Register of culturally significant places program; Assists posts in creation of nominations for inclusion of properties on the Register.
    • Utilizing the results of historical studies, creates stewardship documentation for culturally significant properties to be used by the Department in ongoing maintenance and as references for potential changes to the property

    Travel Required

    25% or less - Travel around the world is required to perform research.
