    The Nursing Officer of the Day (NOD) is accountable for the overall administration of Nursing and Patient Services in the absence of the Associate Director of Patient Care Services during the non-administrative tour of duty, known as WHEN (weekend, holiday, evening, night) hours. The Nurse Officers of the Day are required to work at Montrose and Castle Point Campuses of VA Hudson Valley HCS primarily during the weekend, holiday, evening, and night hours which includes day tours. The Nurse Officer may be required to work both eight or twelve hour shifts and function as a urgent care clinic nurse and nurse officer during his/her tour of duty. The NOD is responsible for exercising decisions in administrative matters based on the facility policies and procedures and collaborates with facility administrative staff and providers. The NOD demonstrates leadership in delivering and improving Veteran care through collaborative team strategies. The NOD provides clinical expertise, responds to medical and psychiatric codes, and will be required to work in and manage the Urgent Room during WHEN hours. Incumbent may be assigned as needed to work as the UC staff nurse. The NOD is responsible and accountable for the fiscal resource management of personnel, equipment, and financial containment of overtime. The incumbent demonstrates expertise in the development and implementation of nursing standards for the management of specific patient populations and evaluates health care delivery by assessing progress and evaluating outcomes in collaboration with appropriate personnel. Position may entail other duties as assigned and will require travel between the Montrose and Castle Point campuses.
