The work requires knowledge of inspection and investigative principles, applicable federal laws and regulations, problem resolution tactics, professional communication skills, and the ability to coordinate and manage resources. It requires the incumbent to have professional competencies and education as the subject matter expert to perform a variety of inspections and investigations concerning complaints of favoritism,retaliation, etc; and, to advise unit commanders and others on corrective actions to remedy or preemptively address issues that could result in inspector general complaints. Positions in this series must manage National Guard investigations and resolve all issues promptly and in accordance with established Department of Defense, Army, Air Force, and National Guard Inspector General Program directives and policies. The Inspector General Staff positions are located in the Joint Force Headquarters - State Inspector General Office and in the Air National Guard Wing Inspector General Office. The Inspector General positions function independently as the key links between Army National Guard commanders, Air National Guard commanders,JFHQ-State command authorities, and the Adjutants General in all matters related to the National Guard. This program directly impacts on readiness, discipline, efficiency, economy and morale of military and civilian personnel, equipment, and associated management systems within each state. Some positions in this Series require expanded security clearances and extensive knowledge of the laws, rules, regulations and procedures governing distinct sets of administrative management, legal requirements, duties, and responsibilities for performing Inspector General functions.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have experience in collecting and analyzing data effectively, efficiently, and accurately. Experienced in applying analytical and evaluative techniques to analyze the self-assessment program plans. Experienced in developing training materials and instructing others in the basic inspector general program elements, activities and procedures. Capable and experienced in conducting interviews, reading reviews, and evaluating situations or conditions. Have a working knowledge of various office automation software programs, to include specific inspector general forms, tools, and techniques to support office operations to produce a variety of documents such as, letters, reports, spreadsheets, databases, and graphs. Have a working knowledge of inspector general investigations, understands how to conduct interviews, fact finding projects, and/or complete data analysis. Experiences may have included activities such as, approaching individuals who may be fearful, skeptical, or uncooperative during the questioning process of the investigation; establishing rapport with different personality types in order to glean appropriate information pertaining to complaints and allegations, and resolving complex problems. Experienced in applying conventional methods to gather, analyze, and evaluate information and data, draw conclusions, and recommend appropriate action. Skilled in comprehending procedures outlined in inspector general regulations and directives and experienced in applying them to complete conventional inquiries, complaints, Congressional, etc. Experienced and confident in communication skills, both written and oral, to prepare comprehensive reports of investigation, responses to congressional staffers, and make presentations to high level management officials. Experienced in completing work assignments and handling problems and deviations in accordance with instructions, policies, previous training or established practices. Experienced in interpreting and executing policies using general guidelines and precedents. Air National Guard Enlisted: High school diploma or General Education Development diploma (GED - Army Enlisted Only) is mandatory. The school work should include completed courses in math, English grammar and composition, speech, psychology, and general science is preferred.Completed higher education academic courses from an accredited business, civilian or military technical school, junior college, undergraduate college or university are optimum. Completed academic courses may include business management, human resources development, English grammar and composition, speech,statistics, public administration, human resources administration, organizational development, public administration, and behavioral social sciences.
