    The VA Southern Nevada Healthcare System is currently seeking a few Licensed Practical or Vocational Nurses to join our nursing team as an intermittent employee in our float pool.

    Responsibilities

    The Float Pool LPN belongs to the office of patient care services and reports to the Associate Nurse Executive of inpatient nursing service through the Charge Nurse/Nurse Manager. Duties of the position include and are not limited to:
    Perform basic nursing procedures such as vital signs, treatments, specimen collection in accordance with policy
    Uses guidelines or receives direction in selecting the most appropriate application of procedures and guidelines
    Makes observations and thoroughly documents care and the patient response in the patient chart
    Performs and records assigned nursing care including and not limited to Oxygen Therapy, clinical reminders with appropriate consults and alerts indicated, Check expiration dates of medication and supplies, delegated procedures and treatments
    Assist with minor procedures including obtaining and arranging necessary equipment, positioning patient ensuring comfort and privacy
    Adhere to standards of practice and safe technique in preparation and administration of medication, vaccines and skin tests, documenting appropriately in medical record
    Demonstrates understanding of age and population specific characteristics that affect the healthcare needs of the Veteran
    Adhere to principles of infection control, safety and universal precautions
    Demonstrates competence utilizing special equipment needed to perform job duties
    Obtain electrocardiograms on patients as assigned reporting reading to the RN and or provider according to unit level procedures
    Complete finger stick blood glucose testing on patients as appropriate and other point of care testing
    Completion of mandatory competency reviews as necessary
    Follow policy and procedures related to fire and disaster drills, safety and security measures
    Maintains confidentiality of electronic, written and/or verbal patient information Maintains a work environment that honors diversity
    Protects patient and family rights. Supports patient-driven care in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner
    Promotes patient and personal safety by recognizing and reporting potential risk factors in the clinical environment

    Work Schedule: Intermittent. Varies, to include Days, Nights, Evenings with potential Weekends and Holidays.
