The U.S. Postal Inspection Service enforces more than 200 federal laws under its jurisdiction. Beyond the badge, our U.S. Postal Inspectors are investigative and security professionals who form the law enforcement, crime prevention, and security arm of the Postal Service to ensure America's confidence in the U.S. Mail.
U.S. Postal Inspectors are federal law enforcement officers with jurisdiction in all criminal matters involving the security and integrity of the U.S. Postal Service and violations of postal related laws. U.S. Postal Inspectors are federal law enforcement officers who carry firearms, make arrests, execute federal search warrants, and serve subpoenas. Inspectors work with U.S. Attorneys, other law enforcement, and local prosecutors to investigate cases and prepare them for court.
Major Duties
Postal Inspectors investigate criminal, civil, and administrative violations of postal related laws, often using forensics and cutting-edge technologies. It is essential that Inspectors be in sound physical condition and be capable of performing rigorous physical activities on a sustained basis.
Competition is intense for the relatively few Postal Inspector positions. Candidates must successfully complete all phases of the recruitment process and begin their first duty assignment prior to their 37th birthday. Age waivers may be granted to preference -eligible veterans over the age of 37.
