    About the Position: This position is located in Arlington, VA (Crystal City) as the Basic Research Deputy Director in a business office environment. Typical working hours are within the window of 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Telework is authorized with required approval and training. Applicant can expect to achieve professional development and experience at Senior leadership level of Army, including strategic guidance, oversight and planning for science and technology programs.

    • Develop briefings to defend and provide understanding of Army basic research efforts and investments.
    • Authoring/editing information papers and briefings.
    • Briefing management/leadership on planned/executed programs.
    • Assessing programs for technical progress and maturity.
    • Provide support for the Basic Research portfolio, conceiving new concepts and approaches to resolve highly complex engineering and/or scientific problems that cross organizational boundaries.
    • Exercise judgment and ingenuity in evaluating the value and applicability of new or improved technology, strategies, trends, or applications.
    • Responsible for the development of supporting budget documentation to justify the Basic Research portfolio budget request, and supporting the Portfolio Director for Basic Research in defending it to Congress, OSD, and the Army Staff.
    • Investigate, predict, and anticipate issues and conditions extending beyond a single specialty area, and affects known standards, approaches, precedents, or concepts.

    Travel Required

    50% or less - Up to 30% Business Travel required.
