The Senior Research Scientist (Electromagnetics) position is assigned to the US Army Research Laboratory, Sensor & Electron Devices Directorate, Office of the Director. The incumbent is the Army leading expert in the field of passive and active Radio Frequency (RF) sensors, and the application of electromagnetic signal processing, structures, and propagation. The incumbent will actively perform research and directs teams' efforts contributing to the broad theory, fundamental science, and experimental programs of basic and applied research in passive electromagnetic sensors, components, and devices that are core elements of Army passive RF sensors, radar, electronic warfare (EW) systems, and RF directed energy systems. The senior research scientist will essentially be responsible for the broad application of incumbent-generated novel principles to transform electromagnetic theory into design of lightweight, stable, components and devices for the entire suite of jamming, sensing, and weaponry components for tactical systems. Thus, formal mathematical derivation should inform empirical design procedures and enable practical validation. These shall lead to well defined, predictable design rules for developing the needed electromagnetic techniques, structures, and the enabling device technologies that are unavailable for critical systems/equipment.
