    The Lead Medical Support Assistant (MSA) will be working within the Dayton VA Medical Center, Patient Business Service. The incumbent will be assigned to the Ambulatory Care Section and supports administrative/ clerical duties in support of the implementation and sustainment of Veterans Health Administration outpatient and inpatient clinic operations and scheduling. Areas of assignment may include all specialialty clinics such as dermatology, Neurology, Optometry, Podiatry & Orthopedics.

    Duties include but may nt be limited to the following:

    • Distributes and balances the workload among employees in accordance with established work flow or job specialization;
    • Oversees status and progress of work; makes day-to-day adjustments in accordance with established priorities, obtaining assistance from the supervisor on problems that may arise, such as backlogs which cannot be disposed of promptly;
    • Completes work reviews (completed and in progress) to ensure instructions on work sequence, procedures, methods and suspenses are being met;
    • Amends or rejects work not meeting established standards, referring questions or matters not covered by written standards to supervisor for timely resolution;
    • Recognizes and refers substandard performance or substandard behavior to supervisor as needed;
    • Estimates and reports on expected time of completion of work, maintain records of work accomplishments and time expended;
    • Instructs staff in specific tasks and job techniques. Provides written instructions, reference materials and supplies as needed to accomplish the mission of Patient Business Service;
    • Provides on-the-job training (OJT) to new employees in accordance with established procedures and practices; ensures all training requirements are met;
    • Maintains current knowledge of procedures, policies, guidelines, etc., to be able to answer questions or obtain needed information to make an informed decision;
    • Able to resolve simple informal complaints of employees, referring others to supervisor for resolution;
    • Provides information and\or makes recommendations to supervisor on staff duty performance and behavior, training progress, including promotions, reassignments, recognition for outstanding performance and other personnel needs.

      Work Schedule: Monday -Friday 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
