    About the Position: This position is at Fort Belvoir Community Hospital (FBCH), Fort Belvoir, VA, in the Directorate for Nursing, Maternal Child Neonatal Level II Unit. The Special Care Nursery (SCN) is staff with an interdisciplinary group of providers that allows babies born as early as 32 weeks gestation to be treated at FBCH. Prolonged periods of walking, standing, bending, or stooping, ability to lift, push, or pull objects greater
    than 50 lbs and rotating shift work are required.

    • Provide comprehensive, family-centered care in a Special Care Nursery (SCN), Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).
    • Attend high risk deliveries, providing neonatal resuscitation as needed.
    • Manage peripheral and umbilical IV lines, and administer medications.
    • Provide maintenance of nasal/oral gastric tubes for specialized feedings of newborns.
    • Perform assessments and provide care of premature and ill infants.
    • Document patient information in electronic medical records.
    • Recognize complications and coordinate with other members of the specialty care team.
    • Operate highly technical equipment/technology to treat and monitor neonatal patients (i.e., cardiac monitors, phototherapy, resuscitation care centers, IV infusion pumps, CPAP generators, and ventilators).
    • Provide stabilization and transition of the normal newborn at delivery.
    • Identify changes in the newborns condition and act quickly in response to life-saving and/or critical situations.
    • Circulates and scrubs for Cesarean Sections.
    • Assist the anesthesiologist with insertion of an epidural, and provide care to the patient with regional anesthesia.
