    The Hershel "Woody" Williams VA Medical Center located in Huntington, WV is seeking a Physician who is board certified or eligible in Internal Medicine.The Internist will report to the Chief of Medical Service.

    Primary duties include the pre-operative evaluation of patients scheduled for surgical procedures. This care will be performed primarily in an outpatient setting. The incumbent will provided consultative services on patients who are for planned surgical procedures and perform administrative functions and other tasks as assigned by the Chief, Medical Service. The Physician will be expected to use evidence based and/or standard of care evaluations in order to properly risk-stratify patients prior to their procedures and to arrange and follow-up on any testing deemed necessary as a part of this process. The incumbent is expected to provide patient care that is compassionate, appropriate, and effective for the promotion of health, prevention of illness, and treatment of disease.

    The ideal candidate should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills that enable them to establish and maintain professional relationships with patients, families, and other members of the health care team. The incumbent is expected to adhere to stated policies and provide timely documentation of clinical notes (e.g. H&P, consult review, medication reconciliation, etc.).

    In addition, the incumbent is expected to coordinate and communicate the treatment plan with surgery, anesthesia, other subspecialties, nursing, social workers, clerical staff, pharmacy and ancillary staff. Incumbent will utilize a computerized medical record system for entering notes and requesting consults, etc. The ideal candidate will help to ensure that high quality patient care is delivered in a resourceful and efficient manner.
