There is a need to fill 1 Office of Naval Research Science Advisor (SA) position. SAs typically serve a 1 year tour, extendible to a total of 3 years, and remain on the roles of their home activity. SAs serve on the staff of a major joint, Navy, or Marine Corps command; assist and advise the host Commander and staff in the identification of Warfighting Capability Gaps that have a critical impact on combat readiness; and serve as the primary interface between the command and the RDT&E community in finding and implementing solutions. As a Science Advisor, you must have a specific understanding of the current DoN S&T planning and experimentation process to focus on transition of technology. Positions require a TS/SCI clearance and the ability to go into the field. Typically, 20-40% of the Science Advisor's time will be spent on travel.
If the selectee's home activity participates in a Personnel Demonstration Project, the selectee would remain under their activity's Personnel Demonstration Project. Selectees may serve on a temporary reassignment or temporary promotion depending on their qualifications.
Current needs include:
Commander, Naval Aviation Warfighting Development Center (NAWDC), Fallon, NV. Serves as the principal advisor on initiatives relevant to the NAWDC mission and serves as the interface between the Commander and S&T/R&D organizations across government, academia, and industry. A major focus is the advancement of state of the art sensors, systems, data analysis and mission reconstruction capabilities related to the intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) mission. Requires professional experience in aviated related S&T and R&D efforts and understanding of Naval Aviation systems, platforms, training, tactics, new concept development, and fleet and joint experimentation.
50% or less - Typically, 20-40% of the Science Advisor's time will be spent on travel.
