    This position is located in the Office of Environmental Quality and Transboundary Issues, Bureau of Oceans and International Environmental and Scientific Affairs (OES/EQT), within the Department of State.  EQT develops and coordinates U.S. international policy on environmental issues in the areas of air pollution, toxic chemicals and pesticides, mercury, hazardous wastes, and other pollutants.

    • Develops, coordinates, negotiates, and oversees implementation of work plans for environmental cooperation with Free Trade Agreement (FTA) countries, and serves as a member of the delegation during negotiations on related FTA issues.
    • Identifies and analyzes foreign policy issues including relevant environmental, economic, political, and scientific factors in support of U.S. policy to address objectives related to environmental quality and transboundary pollution prevention.
    • Prepares briefing, decision, and action memoranda for Department principals, including the Secretary, Under Secretary, and Assistant Secretary.
    • Defines strategic policy goals and objectives, and coordinates strategies to advance those objectives with executive branch agencies.
    • Develops, drafts, clears, & coordinates U.S. policy positions on air pollution, waste, & marine debris related environmental policy to guide delegations & interventions in international meetings & negotiations; Liaises with policy level officials.

    Occasional travel - Domestic and/or foreign travel may be required.
