This position is located in the Surface Transportation Board's Office of Environmental Analysis (OEA). OEA is responsible for ensuring the agency's compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act, the National Historic Preservation Act, and related environmental laws and implementing regulations, including the Board's environmental rules. As a historic preservation specialist, you will:
-Provide senior-level expertise in historic preservation, ensuring that the agency complies with the Section 106 process, among others required by the National Historic Preservation Act and the regulations of the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation (ACHP) implementing the National Historic Preservation Act.
-Serve as a historic preservation advisor and expert for Board staff and assist the Director of OEA in his or her role as Federal Preservation Officer.
-Work in multi-disciplinary teams efficiently to prepare and complete environmental and historic documents.
-Represent the organization at Section 106 consulting party meetings, conferences and other transportation events.
-Develop policies for rail-related projects as it relates to archeology, historic architecture, historic engineering, traditional cultural properties and cultural landscapes and other historic preservation-related considerations.
Occasional travel - You may be expected to travel for this position.
