EMERGENCY ASSIGNMENT: Every FEMA employee has regular and recurring emergency management responsibilities, though not every position requires routine deployment to disaster sites. All positions are subject to recall around the clock for emergency management operations, which may require irregular work hours, work at locations other than the official duty station, and may include duties other than those specified in the employee's official position description. Travel requirements in support of emergency operations may be extensive in nature (weeks to months), with little advance notice, and may require employees to relocate to emergency sites with physically austere and operationally challenging conditions.
This position is located in the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA), Mt. Weather Emergency Operations Center (MWEOC), Facilities Management Division, Maintenance Branch, Vehicle Maintenance Shop and is responsible for servicing all the mobile vehicles and equipment on site. This includes a wide variety of heavy mobile equipment including cranes, tractors, road graders, and loaders as well as buses, forklifts and automobiles.
- Dispensing gasoline, diesel fuel, checking fluid levels and tire pressures, inflating and repairing tires and tubes.
- Checking spark plugs, fan belts, tail pipes, hoses and similar items and performing replacements and adjustments; performing battery servicing including charging batteries and adding distilled water or battery acid as necessary.
- Removing and replacing accessories such as wiper blades, light bulbs, rear view mirrors and similar items; assisting mechanics as needed.
- Monitoring inventory of gasoline and supplies on hand and keeping shop areas clean and orderly.
- Washing cars and cleaning interiors.
Promotion Potential: Future promotions will be dependent on your ability to perform the duties at a higher level, the continuing need for an employee assigned to the higher level, and administrative approval.
