Social Workers are uniquely prepared for this role by virtue of their education, training, and experience which prepares them to understand the person-in-situation and the influences that family and community have in impacting the health-care needs of Veterans.
The Social Worker at the Monterey CBOC is responsible for developing and directing medical social work services at the outpatient clinic serving veterans and their families from a large geographic area including Monterey, San Benito and Santa Cruz Counties. The incumbent works collaboratively with medicine, mental health and specialty clinics in planning, organizing, managing and evaluating the social work services needed to further the mission of the clinic in providing exceptional health care to improve the health and well-being of the veterans served by the clinic. These social work services include: screening, assessing, consulting, managing crises, treating, referring, coordinating VA services and community resources, and developing policies and procedures to improve the social work services to the clinic providers, veterans and their families.
