    This position is in the Office of the Chief Counsel, Bureau of the Fiscal Service. One position is located in Parkersburg, WV and one position is located in Washington, D.C. The attorney may work independently and with other members of the Office of Chief Counsel. The attorney will provide program and policy guidance on a wide variety of legal issues.

    The following are the duties of this position at the GS-13. If you are selected at a lower grade level, you will have the opportunity to learn to perform all these duties, and will receive training to help you grow in this position.

    • Render legal advice and opinions to administrative officials, operating managers and supervisors of the Bureau on specifically assigned legal matters pertaining to the operations of the Bureau.
    • Represent the Bureau in administrative proceedings and assist in representing the Bureau’s interests in matters before the Federal courts. 
    • Advise, perform legal research and prepare briefings, presentations and legal decision memoranda on matters requiring the interpretation and application of statutes, regulations, court decisions, Departmental precedents, Bureau policies and technical publications involving many fields of law related to Bureau operations.
    • Participate in Bureau, Departmental and inter-agency working and task force groups.  Prepare and review position papers and other documentation for negotiations between Bureau senior officials and their counterparts.

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - possibility of one (1) to five (5) nights annually
