Serve as the subject matter expert on research compliance for the medical center's research leadership team and all VA researchers.
Play an integral role with the organization's accreditation activities through the Association for the Accreditation of Human Research Protection Programs (AAHRPP).
Provide leadership, expertise, and strategic direction for the Medical Center's research compliance program, and is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining compliance oversight activities in assigned areas of responsibility.
Perform ongoing research monitoring and auditing.
Perform ongoing surveillance of all areas of research compliance including human, animal, and bench science research along with any issues involving research safety or data security, and act decisively on issues of potential noncompliance.
Perform audits of human research protocols including review of the protocol to ensure the safety of human research participants - including analysis of subject entry criteria for each enrolled study subject.
Perform audits of animal research, which includes reviewing of the Animal Components of Research Protocol (ACORP) for proper protection and utilization of laboratory animals as required by the USDA, PHS, and Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC).
Perform audits of BioSecurity and Lab Safety includes review of animal and laboratory facilities for the prevention of work-related injuries to personnel or animals, and environmental assessment in conjunction with Biosafety Officer and the Subcommittee for Research Safety to protect workers in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards to ensure compliance with existing federal and state regulations governing use and transport or select agents and other etiologic and toxic agents, hazardous chemical, and radioisotopes.
Develop procedural systems and processes for establishing, operating, and assessing the effectiveness of compliance control and tracking systems and the accomplishment of audits, inspections, or management of internal control review.

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, although some slight physical effort may be required. Work is typically performed in an adequately lighted and climate controlled office. May require occasional travel.
