    The position is located in the Waiver Review Division in the Office of Domestic Operations, Visa Services, Bureau of Consular Affairs. The incumbent oversees the administration of the provisions of the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA), Title 22 of the Code of Federal Regulations, and other regulations and policies governing the recommendation of waivers under section 212(e) of the INA to the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service (USCIS).

    • Drafts the most complex recommendations reflecting the Department's interpretation of the relevant laws and regulations, and drafts decisions on waiver requests in the most publicized and controversial cases.
    • Provides policy guidance on the waiver review process to subordinates and advice to the Office Director, the Managing Director for Visa Services, the Deputy Assistant Secretary for Visa Services, and the Assistant Secretary for Consular Affairs.
    • Establishes or approves new policies and procedures applicable to adjudicating waiver requests necessitated by changes in law, or judicial or administrative decisions.
    • Plans work to be accomplished by subordinates, sets and adjusts short-term priorities, and prepares schedules for completion of work.
    • Gives advice, counsel, or instruction to employees, interviews candidates for positions in the unit, recommends appointment, promotion, or reassignment to such positions; and identifies developmental and training needs of employees.
