    What General Information Do I Need to Know About This Position? 

    Salary: $$79,799 (Step 01) to $103,739 (Step 10); NOTE: First time hires to the Federal Government are typically hired at the Step 01.

    Responsibilities

    Mendenhall Research Fellowship - Research Opportunity #17-32. Advancing regional and national 3D Earth resistivity models of the United States for critical mineral resource assessments and geomagnetic hazards

    Proposed Duty Station: Lakewood, CO / Golden, CO

    Areas of Ph.D.: Geophysics, geology, space physics or a related field (candidates holding a Ph.D. in other disciplines, but with extensive knowledge and skills relevant to the Research Opportunity may be considered). (candidates holding a Ph.D. in other disciplines but with knowledge and skills relevant to the Research Opportunity may be considered).

    Qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: Applicants must meet one of the following qualifications: Research Geophysicist; Research Geologist. (This type of research is performed by those who have backgrounds for the occupations stated above.  However, other titles may be applicable depending on the applicant's background, education, and research proposal. The final classification of the position will be made by the Human Resources specialist).

    Physical/Environmental Demands: Work is performed in an office and/or field setting.  Office work involves everyday risks or discomforts that require normal safety precautions typical of offices or meeting and training rooms. Fieldwork can be strenuous, including hiking over rough terrain and carrying heavy equipment (up to 40 lbs). In the field, employees are exposed to inclement weather and danger associated with walking or climbing over rough terrain, wild animals, stinging insects, poisonous vegetation and traveling in vehicles on unimproved roads. The employee applies a wide range of safety precautions when conditions deteriorate due to unforeseen conditions or previously unknown risks. 

    Travel Required

    Occasional travel - Overnight travel of 1 to 5 nights per month may be required.
