Biology Technicians (Wildlife) perform any or all of the following or similar duties: Performs the full range of standardized support duties and limited technical duties in support of wildlife programs. a. Makes observations and records data relating to wildlife studies through the use of prepared outlines. Inventories water, winter ranges, upland game bird habitat, habitats, etc., following guidelines furnished. Participates in banding, tagging and releasing ducks, antelopes, deer, or other wildlife in connection with wildlife studies. Performs vegetative work in wildlife habitat and water fowl areas such as planting bulbs, brush and seeds. Enters and retrieves data from automated databases. To perform duties of this position requires the use of motor vehicles. In most cases this will be a 4-wheel drive vehicle or ATV.
Physical Demands / Work Environment: The work is performed outdoors in rugged terrain; to include steep, wet, muddy, rough, uneven or rocky surfaces; positions require physical exertions, such as, bending, crouching, stooping, stretching, reaching, and similar activities. Individuals should be capable of working alone, or with other people, during early morning hours, night, or during the day.

6 months of general experience and 6 months of specialized experience. Examples of general experience: working in any professional, technical, or other responsible field that provided you with a familiarity of wildlife in their natural habitat or techniques of collecting scientific data. Examples of specialized experience may include following specific instructions to check extensive data relating to the survey/study area; collecting samples; or observing and recording specific information (i.e., vegetative cover, water quality samples, flora or fauna).
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
For GS-4: Successful completion of 2 years of study that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as biology, chemistry, statistics, entomology, animal husbandry, botany, physics, agriculture, or mathematics.At least 6 semester hours of courses must be directly related to the position to be filled.

Ability to read maps and use GPS equipment to determine locations.
