The incumbent serves as an International Broadcaster for the Mandarin Service performing duties in a multi-media environment that includes radio, television and/or internet. Incumbent translates and adapts English texts into Chinese, conducts interviews and prepares a variety of material for the Service's radio and television broadcasts. Duties include, but are not limited to:
-Performs difficult translations and adaptations into idiomatic Mandarin Chinese of a variety of centrally prepared English-language news and features.
-Writes news-related stories for use in television and radio and/or the internet. In addition to centrally produced material, uses a variety of sources to write news reports.
-Prepares targeted, well-balanced scripts for television and radio programs or program segments that capture the attention of the audience.
-Conducts live or taped television and radio interviews on political economic, scientific, cultural, and other subjects. Identifies persons to interview and issues to cover to insure a balanced program.
-As needed, functions as a web team member with responsibility for uploading daily news, correspondent reports, backgrounders, special features, photographs, graphics, and audio/video elements onto the Chinese Branch web sites. Adjusts radio scripts as necessary for internet and television presentation.
-Keeps abreast of current developments in the target area in order to plan and develop program materials that are relevant and consistent with broad U.S. policy aims.
