The Sheet Metal Mechanic will:
-Plan, construct and install deflectors, pans, straps, containers, flaps and metal furniture with straight and curved edges.
-Be proficient in the use of personal computers or computer terminals to reference technical manuals, order supplies and track components.
-Use constructed items that may be bent or formed to a variety of angles or curves with varying pitch or circumference. The degree of difficulty to construct is high because the mechanic works with assembly joints, hems and edges and operates more complex hand and power machines (e.g., sliproll forming machines, box and pan brakes, rotary machines).
-Apply principles of radial line development combined with parallel line development and triangulation.
-Comply with all OSHA safety rules and regulations to ensure that work progresses in a safe manner.

Ability to perform the work of a sheet metal mechanic without more than normal supervision, which includes working independently, showing job responsibility and exercising initiative.
Qualification at the WG-8 level: Worker level; assists journey level sheet metal workers.
Qualification at the WG-10 level: Performs Journey level sheet metal duties.
Qualification at the WG-11 level: Performs Senior Journey level sheet metal duties.
