Biological Science Technician (Wildlife) Duties:
GS-5: Serve as a member of a team monitoring the status of listed species and species of concern, and educational outreach promoting stewardship of these species. Conduct surveys and monitoring of multiple wildlife species including Threatened and Endangered (T&E) species and species of management concern. Conducts GPS mapping, GIS data management, and map production. Document findings of fieldwork, analyze data, and prepare clear, concise, and accurate scientific documents. Create educational activities and present programs for public audiences to promote wildlife stewardship. Support integrated pest management program and visiting researchers. Communicate wildlife information, issues, and scientific results to audiences ranging from local citizens to the scientific community. May assist in leading less experienced staff & volunteers in the implementation of wildlife related monitoring management or research.
GS-6 In addition to GS-5 above: Work independently or as a member of a team monitoring the status of listed species and species of concern, and educational outreach promoting stewardship of these species. May lead field crews in the implementation of wildlife related monitoring management or research.
GS-7 In addition to GS-5 & GS-6 above: Provide leadership and technical support to the resource management program. Will work under the direct supervision of the program leader in lab & office situations. Will lead others in monitoring the status of listed species and species of concern, and educational outreach promoting stewardship of these species.
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.

Physical Demands: The work requires physical exertion such as regular and recurring walking, hiking, or climbing over wet, rough, uneven, or rocky surfaces; bending; crouching, stooping, lifting or reaching to observe, collect, or record field data; or in some situations the work may require physical exertion to scuba dive or operate a boat. Moderate to heavy items (e.g., equipment and packs up to 50 pounds) must be lifted and carried on a routine basis. May be required to hike several miles in a day.
Positions will be filled at one grade level and have no promotion potential.
Working Conditions: The work environment varies from office/laboratory settings to outdoor field sites. The work performed in the field involves regular and recurring exposure to extreme weather conditions and terrain, poisonous plants, biting insects and wild animals.
