    This position is located in the Agricultural Research Service, US National Poultry Research Center in Athens, GA.

    This mission of the US National Poultry Research Center is to provide scientific solutions to national and international exotic, emerging and endemic poultry viral diseases through comprehensive research, prediction of disease outbreak, molecular epidemiology, and understanding disease pathogenesis.

    This position will provide support in implementing USNPRC bio-safety programs at Richard Russel Research Center (RRC) and select agent programs at Southeast Poultry Research Laboratory (SEPRL) which are all within the USNPRC; providing bio-safety and bio-containment guidance to USNPRC defined components of the bio-safety programs at the RRC and the SEPRL; and providing guidance and training for RRC and SEPRL personnel.

    Major Duties may include, but are not limited to:

    • Providing references and guidance to scientific staff regarding the development and revision of (PI) bio-safety plans and incident response plans by coordinating and consolidating comments from the entire staff on the plans.
    • Performing safety inspections of laboratory and support service areas of the USNPRC.
    • Correcting violations and unsafe conditions, and recommending solutions to safety problems and issues. Inspecting and observing the following: operations involving the use of chemicals, biological and radiological materials, and laboratory operations.
    • Maintains Bio-safety training records for USNPRC to include RRC and SEPRL. Works with Principal Investigators (PI) and the USNPRC-SEPRL Biosafety Officer on select agent registration of facilities
