    Summary

    The New Mexico VA Healthcare System (NMVAHCS) Behavioral Health Care Line is seeking a full-time experienced licensed Nurse Practitioner to provide general mental health services at the Artesia Community Based Outpatient Clinic. The PMHNP would also work with the Mental Health Intensive Case Management (MHICM) Program on a part-time basis. MHICM is a comprehensive, intensive case management program for Veterans with a diagnosis of serious mental illnesses.

    Responsibilities

    General Mental Health 0.8 FTEE: The incumbent will provide mental health care for Veterans diagnosed with a broad range of psychiatric illnesses including but not limited to conducting psychiatric diagnostic evaluations and ongoing care, providing psychotropic medication management, and providing supportive psychotherapy as appropriate. The possibility for more extensive practice of specialized therapy for particular diagnoses (e.g. substance abuse, PTSD) is possible. May serve on clinically appropriate NMVAHCS committees, participate in performance improvement projects, engage in approved research projects and provide interdisciplinary education and training for advanced practice providers and other mental heath disciplines as appropriate.

    MHICM Program 0.2. FTEE: The incumbent will provide intensive case management services which include community integration, education of Veterans and their families, aggressive outreach to identify appropriate financial and housing resources, and participation with the Veteran's treatment team to insure continuity of care. This is a community-based position which will serve Veterans living in and around Artesia, New Mexico. The ideal candidate will have experience which demonstrates the ability to work with a multidisciplinary team consisting of a nurse case manager, and a social work case manager who provide services to a high needs population of Veterans with identified mental health needs. This team is responsible for collaborative treatment planning with the identified Veteran population. The Nurse Practitioner works with Veterans that have a severe and persistent mental illness such as Schizophrenia; Bipolar Disorder; or Major Affective Disorder and are often high-intensity users of mental health and emergency room services. Must have a valid driver's license.
