This position is located in the Applied Sciences Program in the Earth Science Division (ESD) of the Science Mission Directorate at NASA Headquarters. This position will serve as a Program Manager responsible for managing portions of the Applied Sciences Program. The duties described below are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity.
As a Program Manager, specializing in Earth Sciences Remote Sensing, you will provide expertise in Earth Science applied research through the analysis and application of data obtained from space-based instruments, other measurements, and models to inform and support decisions and actions, promote innovation, and build capacity in the use of Earth science. You will serve as a Program Manager in the Applied Sciences Program of the Earth Science Division of the Science Mission Directorate (SMD) at NASA Headquarters. SMD engages the Nation's science community, sponsors scientific research, and develops and deploys satellites and probes in collaboration with NASA's partners around the world to answer fundamental questions requiring the view from and into space. You will serve in a position that is closely tied to the NASA Earth science applications themes and interacts with all of NASA Earth Science Division's programs.
You will support efforts to enable and advance uses of Earth observations for decision support. You will provide support for program-wide activities for budget, schedule, and performance, including tracking and analyzing financial aspects to support budget implementation and planning and performance goals. You will lead applications activities for specific Earth Science flight projects, discrete Earth Decadal Survey topics, and program initiatives.
You will assess investment opportunities and perform strategic planning. You will maintain knowledge of latest Earth science, technology, policy, and management issues. You will engage a range of Earth science and applications communities to inform and identify opportunities. You will develop activities and solicitations for applications and applied research.
You will lead the evaluation of proposals. You will oversee efforts to monitor progress and performance of selected projects. You will identify and communicate results. You will assure interagency and international coordination of the program and ESD with those of other entities.
